Shared Learning : Enhancing Reinforcement in $Q$-Ensembles

چکیده
Deep Reinforcement Learning has been able to achieve amazing successes in a variety of domains from video games to continuous control by trying to maximize the cumulative reward. However, most of these successes rely on algorithms that require a large amount of data to train in order to obtain results on par with human-level performance. This is not feasible if we are to deploy these systems on real world tasks and hence there has been an increased thrust in exploring data efficient algorithms. To this end, we propose the Shared Learning framework aimed at making Q-ensemble algorithms data-efficient. For achieving this, we look into some principles of transfer learning which aim to study the benefits of information exchange across tasks in reinforcement learning and adapt transfer to learning our value function estimates in a novel manner. In this paper, we consider the special case of transfer between the value function estimates in the Q-ensemble architecture of BootstrappedDQN. We further empirically demonstrate how our proposed framework can help in speeding up the learning process in Q-ensembles with minimum computational overhead on a suite of Atari

UCB and InfoGain Exploration via $\boldsymbol{Q}$-Ensembles
We show how an ensemble ofQ-functions can be leveraged for more effective exploration in deep reinforcement learning. We build on well established algorithms from the bandit setting, and adapt them to the Q-learning setting. We propose an exploration strategy based on upper-confidence bounds (UCB). Our experiments show significant gains on the Atari benchmark.

Reinforcement learning (RL) methods employing powerful function approximators like neural networks have become an interesting approach for optimal control. Since they learn a policy from observations, they are also applicable when no analytical description of the system is available. Although impressive results have been reported, their handling in practice is still hard, as they can fail at re...

متن کاملEmbodied imitation-enhanced reinforcement learning in multi-agent systems
Imitation is an example of social learning in which an individual observes and copies another’s actions. This paper presents a new method for using imitation as a way of enhancing the learning speed of individual agents that employ a well-known reinforcement learning algorithm, namely Q-learning. Compared to other research that uses imitation with reinforcement learning, our method uses imitati...
